About

Our Vision

Buckingham Golf Club was established in 1914 and is a classic parkland design set amongst the rolling hills of the north Buckinghamshire countryside.

Our vision is to provide a memorable experience for golfers where a friendly and welcoming environment is matched by an outstanding golf course and great hospitality. With a focus on continuous improvement, inclusivity, and sustainability we aim to foster great friendships, create happy memories, and cultivate a lifelong love for the game of golf.

Key principles underpinning our vision:

1. To be an enjoyable place to play and learn to play golf and to mix socially with members, guests, and visitors.
2. To promote golf and personal enjoyment for all and proactively embed the Club within the wider community.
3. To sustain and improve the Club for everyone through a planned programme of investment in the course, club house and practice facilities.
4. To ensure that the Club remains affordable, attractive and accessible to members.
5. To look for opportunities to generate additional revenue from the clubs’ facilities through increasing course and club house usage whilst maintaining members’ access.
6. To have a vibrant and active club house that provides a varied choice of quality food and beverages and social events.
7. To provide members access to a full range of high-quality pro shop services (including advice on specialist equipment, swing studio, the course, and rules), and locker room facilities.
8. To be a centre of excellence for golf, providing golf tuition suited to all levels of play and ability on an individual or group basis, by a well-qualified PGA professional.
9. To adopt sustainable practices in the planning and operation of all aspects of the Clubs activities.
10. To ensure the Board, Committees, and management engage and communicate regularly with members and staff and maximise the opportunities for feedback.
11. To ensure the Club is a stimulating place of work with equal opportunities, where staff’s career development is encouraged, and access is provided to training programs.
12. To ensure the club is run efficiently, optimising the use of all its human and physical assets.
13. To continually build on the existing legacy of the Golf Club.

History

In September 1914, four local gentlemen formed Buckingham Golf Club Limited as 9-hole course. In the early 1920’s, the Limited Company was dissolved, and Buckingham became a Members’ Club as it is today.

In 1927, a clubhouse was built with the majority of it being used until 1978 when the new clubhouse was opened. It was also in the 1970’s where the course was extended to 18-holes.

In the 1980’s, further land was purchased, and the clubhouse was extended to accommodate a Bar, Dining area, Changing rooms, Professional’s shop and General Manager’s Office. A practice ground and new facilities for the Course Manager and machinery were also added.

In 2004, the Club replaced all 18 greens with new greens built to USGA specifications and we also extended two holes and rebuilt all the bunkers on the course.

In 2014, in conjunction with the Markham Trust we opened a 10-bay covered driving range which offers an excellent practice area for members and for our Club Professional to run coaching sessions in comfort. This was also the year that we celebrated our centenary, marking 100 years of the club’s existence.

In 2021, a new Irrigation System was installed to offer a quality golf course with excellent greens, providing a good test of golf throughout the year.

In 2024, Buckingham Golf Club has thriving playing sections across men’s, ladies, mixed, seniors and juniors and a comprehensive programme of competitions throughout the playing season.
